About POC Prep

POC Prep helps Black families and families of color navigate independent schools with information, advocacy preparation, community, student voice, and culturally responsive support.

Our mission

POC Prep is a protected community for Black families and families of color navigating independent schools. We offer advocacy preparation, school-vetting tools, student voice, mental health support, family-informed school climate intelligence, and community infrastructure that helps families prepare, protect, and belong.

This is a movement and a solution — built with families, guided by advocates, clinicians, and privacy experts, and designed to grow into a lasting institution rather than a single founder's brand.

Who we serve

We center Black families first and intentionally welcome families of color. We serve current families living through hard moments and prospective families vetting schools before they enroll — as well as the students and alumni whose voices are too often left out of the conversation.

Why Black families first

The research is clear and specific: the ambassador burden, scholarship stigma, administrative gaslighting, biased discipline, hair and dress-code bias, curriculum erasure, and weak school responses to racial harm fall hardest on Black families. Centering Black families first lets us build with precision — and a community built to protect those most exposed protects everyone within it.

Why New England first

New England has one of the densest concentrations of independent schools in the country. Starting here lets us build deep, trusted relationships and a real proof of concept — while designing our language, data structures, and program names so the model can expand nationally.

What Prepare. Protect. Belong. means

Prepare: give families the information, questions, and documentation they need before and during hard moments. Protect: safeguard family and student privacy, and stand independent from the schools. Belong: build community, student voice, and joy so no family or student carries this alone.

The Village Standard

The Village Standard is the deeper framework behind POC Prep — a standard of protection, belonging, accountability, and truth for independent school communities. It names what families deserve and gives us a shared measure for the change we're working toward.
